How do you get that neat line by your cuticles?
I’ve gotten pretty good at getting a nice, even line near my cuticles when I paint my nails, so practice definitely helps! But when I’m done painting the color (before topcoat) I take a small concealer brush from ELF, dip it in acetone, and swipe it along my cuticle to clean it up and get a nice, even line.

How do you maintain your nails and promote growth?
I moisturize a LOT. I use cuticle oil before bed, lotion for my hands during the day, and cuticle cream at least once or twice a day. I’d actually love to moisturize more, but it often slips my mind during the day. When I first started getting into nail blogging, my nails started peeling, so I picked up some OPI Nail Envy Sensitive & Peeling and it worked wonders. I have since gotten a bottle of regular Nail Envy and I use it as a base coat for almost every manicure.

Do you wear false nails and which type?
Nope! All natural, baby! When I was 13, I got it into my head that I needed to have fake nails, so my mom took me to get a manicure done by a friend of ours and she totally convinced me not to get them. I’m super thankful that she changed my mind and that I’ve come to love my nails the way they are.

What base and topcoats do you use?
I have a bunch of base/top coats, but lately I’ve been using either OPI Nail Envy or Zoya Anchor as my basecoats and Sally Hansen Insta Dry topcoat.  I also bought Nubar Diamont recently and I’m really impressed with it so far. I used to use Seche Vite religiously, but I got tired of the shrinking and tip pull from it, so I switched to the Sally Hansen and I’ve been very happy with it.

Since you change your nail polish at least twice a week, what nail polish remover do you use?
I prefer to use Zoya Remove+ but I don't always have it since it's kind of expensive for me right now, so I use the pink Beauty Secrets acetone from Sally Beauty when I don't have Remove+.

  1. How do you get the tips of your nails to be perfectly straight? My nail clippers always give my nails a rounded tip.

    1. Hi Kayla! I use a nail file to shape them that way. You could also probably try using a toe-nail clipper; they are usually bigger than regular nail clippers and clip straight instead of rounded.

  2. How do you take your pictures? For examply what lighting? Your pictures are so clear and bright. I take my nail pictures in sunlight from my window and I don't feel like they turn out as bright or clear.

    1. Hey Alexis Leigh! I use a regular desk lamp with a daylight-balanced bulb in it for my photos. When I started blogging last summer, I would just go outside on a sunny day to take photos, but I found that I have a lot more control with the desk lamp. Plus, I can take photos anytime!

  3. Do you have any tips for keeping nail polish on for longer without chipping?

    1. Definitely make sure you use a base and top coat every time. Right before I go to paint my nails, I wash my hands and scrub my nails with a nail brush to make sure any oil or dirt is off of my nails. You could also swipe your nails with nail polish remover or alcohol to clean them off. I would recommend a fast dry top coat like Sally Hansen Insta Dri to be applied every other day to protect your mani and help it last longer. Hope that helps!

    1. Yes, I took the page down a few days ago because the stuff left wasn't selling and I don't really have the time right now to add more to it, but it will be back eventually!

  6. how do you prevent your nails from peeling or turning yellow from applying so much polish all the time? I used to switch my polish about once a week and my nails started peeling/yellowing :(

    1. When my nails started to peel a while ago, I started using OPI Nail Envy Sensitive & Peeling and that seemed to help a lot. Other than that, I use a nourishing polish remover (usually Zoya Remove+) and always make sure to use a base coat to prevent staining!

  8. Hello, Chelsea - thanks for the great blog; when I was young I religiously painted my nails, and got creative with stripes and stuff before it was cool (it was the 80s-- I'm THAT OLD!!!) and over the years just stopped. Well, maybe it's a midlife crisis, but I just got back into it and just LOVE all the new techniques - I found you via Pinterest also and just wanted to say hey, thanks for the inspiration!
